Led planning processes as part of the owner’s team to covert the De Beers diamond Venetia Mine in Limpopo, South Africa from an open pit to underground operations. Opened in 1992 and producing 40% of South Africa’s diamond production the transition at an estimated cost of US$ 2 billion extended output lifespan to from the status of 2021 to 2043.

Entering at its reconstitution in 2022 to operationalize one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold projects which is targeted to have a 40 year lifespan utilising truck and shovel processes to produce 80 million tonnes of premium copper-gold concentrate per annum. Currently in the process of updating the feasibility study given the time-pause of multiple years, construction is expected to be in two phases beginning within the next two years.

Our work with Arcelor Mittal iron ore mining in Liberia incorporates their philosophy of the centrality of steel for human progress but going forward in a smarter and sustainable ESG methodology driven by systems-based generative AI and localised technology, of which Faolan Consulting is at the forefront in the project controls and planning professions. This innovative mega-project is designed to be fully cognisant of the political socioeconomic history of Liberia and working in sync with stakeholders across sectors for a mining revival that benefits the people of the mining regions, creating local employment and rebuilding economically viable and socially equitable communities. In 2022 post country complexities, the impact of and recovery from COVID19, Arcelor Mital with full government support resumed operations starting with the US$ 1.4 billion Phase II Expansion Project of which we are actively part of off and on site both current and in future stage design and implementation.
